Communications Committee Report: Spring 2022

In ALDA Archives Newsletter, Communications Committee report by ALDA News

By Jim Laffer, Communications Committee Chair

communicationThe last few months have seen both advancements and setbacks for the Communications Committee. One major change is that Corin Goodwin has stepped down from working on ALDA Communications. Her help and guidance over the last 18 months have been greatly appreciated, and we thank her for the efforts she made and the systems and structures she has helped build. As a result, the committee is seeking volunteers to work on a number of areas under the communications committee purview. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the Communications Chair, Jim Laffer, directly at smediachair@alda.org.

Some of the areas we are seeking volunteers for are:

  • Social media – specifically Twitter and LinkedIn. Corporate level social media experience would be very helpful, but if you have experience on these platforms don’t hesitate to reach out.
  • Article writing and basic English editing skills for website articles. Knowledge of WordPress would be a bonus though it is not required.
  • Banner/graphic creation for items to be posted on social media and the website.

With the recent consolidation of the two Facebook groups, ALDAcon group and The Official ALDA discussion group, into one general ALDA discussion group covering all things, Kim Mettache has stepped up and volunteered to help with keeping ALDA’s Facebook presence active and vibrant. She has agreed to take over Facebook posting and will remain an admin on both the main ALDA page and the public group mentioned above. Please note: As part of this transition, the “official ALDA FB group” will be shut down and archived in May as originally planned.

Over the next few months, the Communications Committee will be focused on helping promote ALDAcon on social media and the website. We hope to share articles and posts about speakers, presentations and sponsors for you to enjoy. As a reminder, if you are interested in presenting on a topic at ALDAcon please click here to fill out the form.

As always, your Communications Committee remains committed to helping ALDA grow and remain vibrant for everyone with hearing loss. If you have comments, suggestions, or would like to volunteer for one of the positions listed above or something else you feel would be helpful, please reach out anytime. ALDA is nothing without its members and we welcome hearing from any or all of you at any time.
