ALDA’s Statement on Zoom Captioning

In Advocacy, News by ALDA News

There has been a great deal of confusion as to what Zoom is actually offering regarding captioning access. When pressed, the company has declined the opportunity to make a public statement. While they have previously indicated that they are making free captioning available to K12 educators and people who identify as having hearing loss, it appears that individuals must request individual access and wait patiently. We are told that this can be done by emailing camilla.marais@zoom.us or access@zoom.us.

To be clear, they are NOT offering captioning FREE FOR ALL at this time. We at ALDA are staying on top of this issue and hope to update the community in as timely a manner as possible. We appreciate your support and understanding.

As of January 11, 2021 there has been no official update from ZOOM.
